The Paperfox TD-1 adhesive tape applicator head is an affordable solution for automated application of single- and double-sided self-adhesive tapes.
We use this tape applicator head in the Paperfox FTD-1 tape applicator and many of our other custom creations.
This adhesive tape application head can also be installed in other machines or machine lines, we would like to provide help for this in this article.
Controlling the tape applicator head with a single photosensor
If you want to apply the tape from the beginning to the end of the sheet you can controll the TD-1 with a single NPN or PNP photosensor and 24VDC power supply.
In this case, the start and end of taping can be set by adjusting the position of the photosensor and using adjustable throttle valves mounted on the pneumatic cylinder. (As in the phot below)
This is how we set the taping positions on the HH-1 adhesive tape applicator, for example.
Controlling the tape applicator head with two forosensors
If you don't want to apply tape from the beginning to the end of the sheet, the easiest way to do this is with two photo sensors.
All you need is a PNP and an NPN photosensor and a 24VDC power supply.
The taping positions can be adjusted by adjusting the location of the photosensors.
Controlling the tape applicator head with a PLC or a microcontroller
The most flexible solution is to use a programmable controller to operate the solenoid valves that operate the pneumatic cylinders. The operation can be done with a delay in relation to the photosensor signal or with a rotary encoder that measures the exact position of the sheet.
